Yoga for the Psoas

The Psoas is known as the fight or flight muscle and is similar to a barometer for the state of our nervous system. Experience this important muscle and how to release and strengthen it. As with most muscles, it is important that we have a balance between stability and mobility. We will explore strengthening, releasing and relaxing through Yoga poses and functional movement modalities. A tight psoas can cause postural problems, so conditioning the psoas in your yoga practice can help keep it healthy, strong, and flexible. If you spend a great deal of time sitting, this will be a key practice to incorporate into your lifestyle. This class is appropriate for all level practitioners with some previous experience.

This class is donation based. Suggested Donation is $15-$20. K-Lea Gifford guides you through a multi-level class appropriate for a range of students. This practice provides a challenge for those with experience and includes modifications as needed. Modifications will be made for those students on their cycle, pregnancy, recovering from injury, surgery or illness. All are welcome for this joyful practice to begin your week! A class recording is provided for those students who wish to re-watch the class or practice independently. Just ask.

Iyengar Yoga class for all levels of students, from beginners to advanced. K-Lea Gifford makes the healing practice of yoga accessible to all through skillful instruction, the use of yoga props, individual pose modifications, and hands-on adjustments. The philosophy of yoga and its positive effect on our daily lives is incorporated into each class. This class is accessible for continuing beginners and students who want to focus on the foundation of the practice. Focus on fundamental postures and actions within standing poses, seated poses, twists, forward and backward bending poses are included. Inversions such as Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) are introduced and refined.

Monday 9 am (MST) Livestream Intermediate/Advanced Class

K-Lea Gifford accommodates continuing Iyengar students from intermediate to advanced. Class begins with Sutra Study and the Invocation to Patanjali. Students work with foundational postures in greater depth and explore more advanced postures. Students should be able to hold Sirsasana and Sarvangasana for 5 minutes, and all inversions, arms balances and Urdhva Dhanurasana (upward bow pose) are regularly practiced. At this level, students have developed an understanding of how to work with their own body’s needs and know alternatives to poses that are not appropriate for them. A firm foundation in all the postures is recommended. This 90-minute class is taught in a progressive way to provide a challenge for those with experience while offering modifications as needed. Recommended for students who have at least 2 years of consistent study of Iyengar Yoga. Not recommended for students new to Yoga.
